Why Trade Stocks when you can trade textbooks?

You read that title right, Textbooks are the new stock exchange.

Knowledge is power.

Every semester, hundreds of thousands of students will hit the stores searching for the books that they’ll need to get them through the upcoming school year. Most of these same books can be purchased for drastically reduced prices during the “textbook off-season’. You can see where I’m going with this. Once you have the books, you can sell them at half the price of the bookstore and still make a good deal of profit.

It’s all about timing. Each semester, colleges release their course offering – that golden list that dictates which books are valuable and which books are paperweights. You need this list. Once you know what classes are being offered, you can list all the books you have that apply.

A few pointers:

  • Don’t ever expect to get full-price easily. Most people won’t even buy the full-price books as a last effort. Make sure your prices are reasonable.
  • Don’t wait until the last minute to post them. Just because last-minute students might find them, doesn’t mean they will.
  • Don’t buy too many books! There are only so many students in your area that will buy each specific book, so don’t get left with a lot of extra when the book rush is over.
Now it’s up to you to get out there and test the waters! See how good the market is in your area, and buy some books. Start small, with just a few books, and gradually work your way in.

Happy Hunting,
